Londonderry, VT Rotary Celebrates Independence Day While Supporting Scholarships
Every Fourth of July, the Rotary Club of Wantastiquet is part of one of the town's favorite traditions. Following the annual parade, which begins at the pond on Route 11 and winds its way to the Marketplace parking lot with classic cars, fire trucks, floats, and plenty of excited children, Rotarians set up their grills to serve hot dogs to parade-goers.
This longtime fundraiser benefits the club's scholarship program and has become a welcome stop for families enjoying the holiday. This year's volunteers included Tom Widger, Skip Raymond, Carl Westberg, Tom Ives, Buzz Seeley, and Peter Isakson. Deb Greene lead the way with a Club banner on an ATV, Vermont Style!
The club is especially grateful to 802 Credit Union for sponsoring the purchase of food and water this year, allowing expenses to remain minimal. The credit union also hosted a neighboring tent, where they handed out complimentary water bottles throughout the event.
Thanks to beautiful weather, generous community support, and the spirit of giving, the fundraiser raised approximately $1,300. About 75 hot dogs were sold, with many visitors generously adding donations beyond the purchase price. The day's total was boosted by an unexpected $600 donation from a Rotarian couple who have recently moved to the area. The club will reach out to them, so we can properly thank them for their remarkable generosity. Maybe we have even found new members!
Events like this demonstrate how simple acts of fellowship and community service can make a lasting impact, with every dollar raised helping support scholarships for local students.
